Juniors are the future of Angling, but need help and guidance not only in the selection from the wide range of tackle and its use, but also in the more proficient levels of angling.  Good coaching a way in which the younger anglers can build up their experience and proficiency in an environment where they can learn to compete with other juniors or even more senior anglers.  Obvious there are different levels of proficiency and coaching needs to be tailored to those levels (e.g. introductory, intermediate, highly competent ,elite, etc). League tables within your website can also encourage development and competition, juniors like to see how they are progressing throughout the season and years.

It is not  surprising that  some juniors become proficient very quickly. having a natural ability and a high level of commitment to the sport, which lasts for many, many years,, Other  juniors may try the sport for a while, learn the basics and loose a little of their enthusiasm. However, many will come back to angling later on in life.

To develop the coaching in Junior Angling the ANGLING TRUST organize a range of different levels of courses and competition for both the coaches and the junior anglers  For coaches Level 1 courses are organised to train coaches on general coaching.  Level 2 courses or organised for more serous coaches who wish to become responsible for organizing  events. Level 2 coaches must attend First Aid Courses and Child Protection Courses.

One or two anglers, who have been anglers for a number of years see coaching as a ways of putting something back into the sport. One or two coaches (Kenny Buxton, affectionately known as Bucko, and Kev Sephton the current Head Coach) have build up the Leigh & District Junior Ospreys into a very keen group of junior anglers, supported by  their parents and carers.

Annual presentations are held to present cups and prizes to winners of matches and competitions during the year, and equally important prizes are given to all junior anglers who have taken part in competitions during the year. Many of the prizes are donated by local tackle shops and tackle suppliers for which the Ospreys are extremely grateful
